Prof. Jue Yao, Artistic Director of the Hong Kong String Orchestra and renowned violinist invited Daye Lin, Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, to join hands in the "Oriental Rendezvous・Hong Kong" National Day Concert. Together, they performed iconic Chinese and Western musical masterpieces to celebrate the national day.
Centred around the theme of "Passion・Eternity・Harmony", the concert showcased three classic works that blend Eastern and Western civilizations: Guan Xia's "Symphonic Overture No.1" echoed the resounding notes of national rejuvenation through its powerful movements; the violin concerto "Butterfly Lovers" integrated Yue Opera melodies with symphonic techniques, offering a poetic interpretation of Oriental aesthetics; and Beethoven's "Symphony No. 6 in F Major, Op.68,‘Pastoral’" mirrored the philosophical concept of "harmony between humanity and nature" through its natural soundscapes, constructing an artistic narrative that progresses from struggle to heritage and ultimately culminates in harmony.
This performance holds profound cultural significance. The "Butterfly Lovers culture" is Ningbo' s most globally influential cultural symbol. Prof. Jue Yao, a Ningbo native, was the first violinist to record and release a video performance of the violin concerto "Butterfly Lovers". The Ningbo Symphony Orchestra made its debut in Hong Kong on its 10th anniversary, fostering a musical dialogue between the two cities. This collaboration not only highlights Hong Kong's unique role in bridging Eastern and Western cultures but also creates a timeless emotional resonance through the universal language of symphony.
